The Sheffield Wood Gallery has been dedicated to Visual Arts Alumni, Sheffield Wood as a memorial to her and her achievements while attending the Fine Arts Center.

As a student of the Fine Arts Center during her junior and senior years in high school, Sheffield Wood excelled in her work in the visual arts, earning the distinction of Outstanding Student in Metals as well as the faculty selection as the Rhode Island School of Design President’s Award as outstanding senior in the visual arts department. She was chosen to participate in the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts, and her metalwork and enamels were included in exhibitions sponsored by Scholastic Art Awards and the Enamelist Society. In addition, Sheffield valued academic studies, graduating from the International Baccalaureate program at Southside High School. She was the first student in Greenville County to complete the International Baccalaureate Design Program, and upon submission of her portfolio earned one of the highest scores in the world for her efforts.

Sheffield went on to the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she completed a distinguished degree program in metals. Her work is characterized by superb technical mastery and profound personal expression.

While Sheffield will be remembered as an accomplished and enthusiastic student of the arts, memories of her generosity and kind spirit will be treasured by all those who were fortunate to know her. At the request of her family, Kathy and Fred Wood and her sister, Attee, a scholarship has been established in Sheffield’s name. Established in 1999, the Sheffield Wood Scholarship will be presented annually in May to a senior arts student at the Fine Arts Center who lives by the same high standards that Sheffield demonstrated throughout her life.
